CLEMSON, SC – The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped a midweek game at No. 8 Clemson, 14-4, on Wednesday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Jonathan White went 2-for-3 with a home run to lead PC on the night. The Blue Hose fall to 13-30 while the Tigers improve to 31-11.
How It Happened
Neither team was able to score in the first inning despite having their leadoff reach base. In the bottom of the inning, Connor Jahn struck out two and forced a fly out after issuing a walk to start the game.
In the bottom of the second, the Tigers took the 1-0 lead with a single by Sam Hall that scored Kyle Wilkie.
The Blue Hose replied with three singles to start the third. PC loaded the bases with singles from Connor Slagill, Andrew Bladt and White. Nick Guimbarda and Jack McLaughlin then hit sacrifice flies to give PC the lead, 2-1.
Clemson retook the lead, 4-2, with a three-run home run by Grayson Byrd in the bottom of the third. Wilkie then hit a solo shot off Ryan Hall to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Tigers would stretch the lead to 13-2 scoring one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and four in the sixth inning. They tacked on one more in the eighth inning as well. Clemson ended with 14 runs on 12 hits.
A pair of solo home runs from White, in the seventh, and Colton Chapman, in the ninth, gave PC its final two runs.
Pitchers of Record
Connor Jahn (0-2) took the loss for PC. He allowed four runs on four hits and had three strikeouts against three walks over 2.1 innings.
Travis Marr (4-1) picked up the win allowing one run on three hits over 3.1 innings out of the bullpen. He walked two and struck out one.
The Blue Hose will travel to Radford for a three-game series that begins on Friday at 6 p.m.
