Rock Hill, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team fell to Winthrop in game three of a weekend series by a score of 7-4. The Blue Hose fall to 5-16 (0-3 Big South) while the Eagles improve to 8-13 (3-0 Big South).
How It Happened
In the first inning, PC loaded the bases for Jack McLaughlin who was able to drive in Nick Guimbarda and off a fielder's choice to the shortstop. Nick Wise then doubled to score Jonathan White and put PC up 2-0.
In the second, White doubled down the left field line to score Guimbarda and put PC up 3-0.
Winthrop tied the game in the bottom of the second off a Matthew Mulkey 3-run shot to left field. The Eagles took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth off a 2-run homer by Cale Gibson down the right field line.
In the top of the seventh, AJ Priaulx singled to left field and scored White to cut into the lead, making it 5-4. However, Winthrop got two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning off a Mitch Spires double and Dillon Morton single.
Pitchers of Record
Eric Miles (3-3) took the loss for PC giving up five runs on seven hits and giving up two walks against four strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work.
Daniel Willcutt (2-2) picks up the win for Winthrop after coming in during the second inning. He gave up one run on two hits and had one walk against one strikeout.
Riley Arnone picked up his second save of the season pitching 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball. He struck out three batters and gave up one hit in the ninth inning.
PC Player of the Game
Nick Guimbarda went 2-for-4 with a walk batting at the top of PC's order on Sunday. Over the series, the junior led the Blue Hose with an impressive .462 (6-for-13) and had a home run.
PC will play the last game of a 5-game road stretch by traveling to USC Upstate on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
