The Presbyterian College softball team dropped its first two games of the Spartan/Paladin Invitational being held Feb. 24-25, in Greenville, S.C., and Spartanburg, S.C. PC fell to Marshall, 8-0, in five innings, to open the day, and dropped a 6-3 decision to Furman in the second game. Megan Anderson paced PC on the day, going three-for-six with one RBI.
Marshall 8, PC 0 (5)
Marshall opened the scoring with a solo home run by Taylor McCord in the bottom of the first inning, with a PC throwing error enabling the Thundering Herd to plate a second in the frame. RBI doubles from Rachel Rousseau and Blakely Burch, and another PC error gave Marshall three more in the in the second to go up 5-0. Marshall added a sixth run in the third off a home run from Grayson Radcliffe. McCord hit another home run in the fourth to help the Herd push their lead to 7-0. PC recorded its third error of the game in the fifth inning, allowing Elicia D’Orazio to score the eighth and game-ending run.
PC finished with two hits in the game, those coming off of singles from Jonnie Petree and Megan Anderson, and three errors. Marshall recorded eight runs off 12 hits, with no errors. Leading the Herd in hits was D’Orazio with her three-for-three effort and two runs scored. McCord posted two hits and two RBI off her two home runs.
Abigail Tolbert (1-3) went the complete 5.0 innings, giving up two hits, while striking out seven. Alex Cook (0-2) went 1.1 innings, surrendering two earned runs off five hits. Kaylee Allen and Camryn Alverson saw action in the circle as well.
Furman 6, PC 3
A quiet first couple of innings, Furman put a run on the board first, this coming in the bottom of the third off a PC error. After back to back singles and a Furman error to open the top of the fourth, PC had runners on second and third. A Furman dropped fly brought in one run, with a RBI single from Presley Bissett bringing in the second to give the Blue Hose a 2-1 lead. The Paladins loaded the bases in the fifth off an error, single and walk. Hannah Reynolds singled in a run with a wild pitch scoring another. AnnaRose Borrelli brought in the third and fourth runs of the inning off a double to right center to give Furman the 5-2 lead. A RBI single from Candace Johnson made it 6-2 in the sixth, with PC mounting a rally in the top of the seventh with three two-out singles, the last won a RBI single up the middle from Anderson to make it 6-3. That would be it as the final batter grounded out to end the rally.
The Blue Hose recorded three runs off 10 hits, with two errors. Pacing PC were Petree, Chelsea Lyons, Anderson, and Alexis Edgerton, with two hits each. Anderson and Bissett each had a RBI. Furman posted six hits and six runs, and posted two errors. Johnson and Emma Ogburn each had two hits, while Borrelli had two RBI off her one hit.
Sarah Ramsbottom (0-3) started for PC, going 4.1 innings and giving up one earned run off three hits, while striking out three. Emily DeMonte (6-0) pitched a complete game for Furman, striking out three while allowing one earned run and 10 hits.

PC drops to 1-10 on the year.
The Blue Hose continue tournament play with a doubleheader against USC Upstate in Spartanburg, Sunday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m.
