CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team will open its 2018 season this weekend with two matches. The Blue Hose host NC Central on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Clinton at the Templeton Tennis Courts, before traveling to Charlotte on Sunday for a 5 p.m. match.

The Blue Hose return six players from a year ago, including first team All-Big South selection Tracy Johnson. The team will be led by seniors Caroline Ferrari, Demi Henschel and Brittany Nuttall. In addition to Johnson, a junior, PC also returns sophomores Beth Taylor and Katie Thompson.

The 2018 squad features a pair of newcomers. Samantha Calais, a native of Irmo, S.C., and Ella Rowley, a native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, both join the program for their first collegiate seasons.

Johnson went 14-7 in singles action last season to led the team, including an 8-1 record at No. 2 before moving in to the team’s top spot, and became the first PC player to earn All-Big South honors. Taylor and Nuttall each totaled 12 singles victories on the year, while Thompson managed 10. In doubles, Johnson also led the team in doubles action, totaling 13 victories, while Taylor compiled 11 wins in doubles.

As a team, PC is coming off one of its best seasons to date since joining the Big South. The Blue Hose totaled 12 victories as a team last year, tied for the most in its Division I era, with five players totaling double-digit wins in singles play, the most in PC’s D1 era as well.
