Clinton, S.C. – A 28-8 run midway through the second half lifted the Winthrop Eagles past the Presbyterian College Blue Hose by an 81-68 margin on Sunday afternoon at the Templeton Center.

Davon Bell tied his career high with 11 made free throws and tied Ethan Kay for the team lead as each finished with 15 points. Kay scored his 15 points on 5-8 shooting from behind the arc. Reggie Dillard with 13 points and Romeo Crouch with 11 also finished in double figures for the Blue Hose.

Winthrop finished with a 34-25 advantage in rebounds and outscored the Blue Hose 38-24 in the paint.
How It Happened
Dillard hit a three to open up the game and Blue Hose led the for the entirety of the first half until the 1:19 mark. PC took its largest lead at 27-20 at the 6:06 minute. There were five different ties in the first half as every time PC got up by 5-7 points Winthrop would make a charge and tie it only to Dillard put the Blue Hose back up as he was the leading scorer in the first half with 13 points. No one else on either team was in double figures in the half. Winthrop took its first lead at the 1:19 mark and led by one, 34-33 at the intermission.
Winthrop went on a 28-8 run midway through the second half to pull ahead 67-47. Winthrop’s Xavier Cooks scored 12 of his game high 19 points in the second half to help the Eagles open up their 20-point lead in the second half. Down the stretch the Blue Hose were able to settle down and outscored Winthrop 21-14 in the final 6:28 of game-time. Crouch scored nine of his 11 points in the final stretch.
The Blue Hose finished with four players in double figures for the sixth time this season.
Crouch tied his career highs in field goals with four, field goal attempts with six and minutes played with 34.
Bell tied his career highs with 11 free throws made and 12 free throws attempted.

Winthrop moves to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in Big South play while PC moves to 8-13 and 1-7 in Big South play.
PC travels to Charleston Southern on Wednesday, January 24 for a showdown with the Buccaneers.
