Clinton, S.C. - Kacie Hall's 20 points and Macee Tamminen's 18 points lifted the Blue Hose over Gardner-Webb by a 72-69 score on Tuesday night at the Templeton Center. Janie Miles and Cortney Storey also stacked the score book as Miles scored 15 with six rebounds and five assists. Storey was just shy of a double-double with 10 points and a season high nine assists, all 10 points came in the second half.

Player of the Game

The Blue Hose had a season high four individuals score in double figures led by Hall’s second straight 20-point effort as she scored 20 on five made threes. Tamminen also scored a career high 18 points and a career high three steals while also making four threes. Miles stuffed the score book scoring 15, gathering a team high six rebounds and dishing five assists. Storey came up one assist short of a double-double with 10 points and season high nine assists. All 10 points came in the second half as she did not attempt a single shot in the first half.

Stat of the Game

Gardner-Webb found the advantage in two key categories as they were +13 in second chance points and made 16-20 from the free throw line compared to the Blue Hose’s 8-9 but PC had a 42-21 advantage in three-pointers which was the difference.

This was the sixth time the Blue Hose have made 10+ threes as they are now 3-3 when making 10+ threes. They were one off the record of 15 threes in a single game.

Game Story

Hall scored the first seven points of the game for the Blue Hose and PC playing stifling defense in the first quarter led 14-13 after one period. The largest lead in the first period was four after a Miles three ball put the Blue Hose up 10-6.

In the second period PC built two leads of five points at 19-14 and 21-16. Following a layup by Tamminen that put the Blue Hose up 21-16 Gardner-Webb answered with a 10-0 run sparked by Carley Plentovich three-pointer. That 10-0 run gave the Runnin’ Bulldogs a five-point lead of 26-21. A Salina Virola three and Miles layup both assisted by Storey made it a tie game at 26-26 with 2:31 to play. Gardner-Webb made a three inside the last minute and the Runnin’ Bulldogs took a 29-26 lead into the intermission.

The Blue Hose started the third period on an 8-2 run to take a 34-31 lead with 7:56 remaining. Storey and Miles combined to score all eight of the points. Gardner-Webb fought back to take a lead and the remainder of the period went back and forth with neither team leading by more than three. Riley Hemm hit a three as the buzzer went off to end the period and the Blue Hose led 48-45 after three.

Presbyterian went on a 7-0 run to begin the fourth and 10-0 overall to give the Blue Hose a 55-45 lead with 7:55 to go. PC maintained an 8-13-point lead for the next 5:44 minutes but the Runnin’ Bulldogs would not fold easily. With the Blue Hose lead 67-54 at the 4:18 mark GWU would finish the game on a 15-5 run. Gardner-Webb never got closer than three but it did have a chance to tie on a three at the buzzer that was thrown up to far and the Blue Hose won 72-69. Ky’Asia Stanford scored the first four points for GWU but it was the three three-pointers that Carley Plentovich was able to sink that had the Runnin’ Bulldogs in the game at the end, she scored a game and career high 24 points.

“Every day we take another step, we are really building some chemistry on the offensive end,” said coach Todd Steelman. “It is great to have different players step up for us. We still have to work defensively, but we battled in the second half and showed toughness, which was huge.”

For the Record

The Blue Hose improve to 5-11 and 2-3 in the Big South while Gardner-Webb drops to 12-5 and 2-3 in the Big South.

Game Notes

PC had a season high four different individuals reach double figures for the night led by Hall’s 20 points.

The Blue Hose made 14 threes, tied for the third most in a single game.

Four of the top 10 performances in three point makes have now occurred in the 2017-18 season (15 vs. Furman, 13 vs. Liberty, 11 at USC Upstate and now 14 tonight).

Presbyterian tallied a season high 18 assists and tied its season high with 25 made field goals, it also made 25 vs Furman and Campbell.

This was Hall’s second straight 20-point effort following her career high 23 vs Campbell on Saturday. It is also the eighth team 20-point effort.

Tamminen finished with career highs in points (18), made field goals (6) and steals (3).

This was the sixth game of the season in which Miles has made at least three 3-point field goals.

Storey was one assist shy of a double-double, she finished with a season high nine. She recorded nine assists without a single turnover in the game.

She continues to lead the Big South with an average of 5.4 per game.

Her streak is now at 14 games in a row with at least four assists.

Presbyterian travels to Radford, Va. on Saturday, January 20 to face the Radford Highlanders. The two teams split last season’s two meetings with PC winning 58-54 in Clinton and Radford won 60-50 in Radford.
