CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team will open its 2018 season on Saturday morning, taking on Clemson in Greenville, S.C. on the campus of Furman University at 9:30 a.m. The two were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader but are now scheduled to just play a single match.
The defending Big South Champions will return six of the nine members of last season’s NCAA Tournament team, led by third-year head coach Patrick Fediuk. The 2018 version of the squad will be led by seniors Alejandro Bejar, Brandon Mills and Alexander Lykou. Sophomore Jaime Castillo-Lopez returns after seeing significant action a year ago, along with redshirt junior Will Baird and redshirt sophomore Elias Svensson.
Bejar went 16-6 a year ago, including 6-0 in Big South play, and enters 2018 with an 11-match winning streak, while Castillo-Lopez went 12-5, including a 5-0 mark in Big South play, and went 8-1 to end the year. Lykou spent all of last season in the No. 1 spot in the lineup for PC, while Mills returns to the top of the lineup as well.
PC will look to pick up where it left off in 2017, after going 18-11 overall and 6-1 in Big South action. The Blue Hose were tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the Big South, a first for the program, after capturing both the league’s regular season and tournament titles last season.
Saturday’s match against the Tigers kicks off a five-match road trip to start the season for PC. The Blue Hose will travel to Greenville, N.C. next weekend to take on NC Central and East Carolina.
