High Point, N.C. – A 22-3 run by the High Point Panthers to end the first period propelled High Point to the 81-55 victory at the Millis Center on Tuesday night. Kiara Jackson led the Blue Hose with a career high 10 points in the game.

Player of the Game

Jackson was the team leader with 10 points and tied for the lead in rebounds with six. Macee Tamminen also grabbed a career high six rebounds. Cortney Storey kept her streak of four or more assists alive as she had four assists to go with three steals.

High Point had the clear advantage in the paint as they finished with the 46-16 edge in points in the paint.

Game Story

With 4:37 to play in the first quarter Santos hit a three-point basket to cut the deficit to 16-9. High Point ended the period on a 16-0 run to lead 32-9 after one period of play. Storey would score the first five points of the second quarter showing the Blue Hose had fight in them. High Point was able to take advantage of first half miscues and score 18 points off Blue Hose turnovers in the first half. HPU also took advantage of its size and had a 24-6 advantage in points in the paint. The Big South Preseason Player of the Year Emma Bockrath of High Point scored 18 first half points on perfect 7-7 from the field. She also added five rebounds and three assists. The Blue Hose defense clamped down on the Panthers in the second period as they only allowed 16 points in the period and HPU carried a 48-23 lead into the intermission.

The Blue Hose came out in the second half with great defensive intensity as they held HPU without a basket in the first two minutes of the third. HPU continued to take advantage of their size in the interior as it outscored PC 22-10 in the second half. The Blue Hose continued to fight all night long as 10 different players logged 10 or more minutes in the game. Jackson scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth period and the Blue Hose won the quarter 21-14.

The Blue Hose move to 3-11, 0-3 in Big South play while High Point moves to 9-5 and 3-0 in Big South play.

“High Point brought a level of effort and intensity that our team did not match early,” said coach Todd Steelman. “We have to be confident in taking shots out of our offense but we have to be that much more committed to sprinting the floor and working together on the defensive end. I though some of our young players made strides as the game went on. Now it is a matter of doing it consistently, to help Cortney (Storey), Janie (Miles), and Kacie (Hall).”
