Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (2-0-0) defeated the Wofford Terriers (0-3-0) for the first time since 2009 on Sunday night at Martin Stadium. With the win the Blue Hose start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2003 when they were still a member of Division II.

How it happened: The Blue Hose got on the board first in the eighth minute of action, Kristen Bane was able to take a Louise McGirt corner kick and sneak it past the Terrier goal keeper. Kelsey Yeager got a foot on it in the pile as well for the assist. With that goal Bane became the third Blue Hose freshman to score a goal in the first two matches.

Just seven minutes later in the 15th minute of action Yeager would get her foot on a McGirt corner kick and put the Blue Hose up just 2-0 just 14:21 into the match.

The Terriers did their best to get on the board in the first half but were unable to capitalize. They took 10 shots in the first half and five of which were on goal. The Blue Hose sophomore goal keeper, Alyssa Leaman, saved all five in the first half.

Wofford would get on the scoreboard early in the second half, in the 47th minute overall. Leaman was making a pass to a teammate when Terrier forward Hayley Younginer intercepted the pass and put the ball in the back of the net to make it a 2-1 match.

The 2-1 score was short-lived as Blue Hose senior midfielder, Frances Whitesides, took the ensuing kick-off down the near sideline and scored her first goal of the 2017 season.

Younginer would cut the score to 3-2 in the 79th minute but the Terriers were unable to equalize the score.

Players of the Game: The Blue Hose played a complete match but the two who stood out most were defender, Yeager, who scored a goal and recorded an assist off of McGirt corner kicks. Also the goal keeper, Leaman, shined bright recording nine saves in 11 Wofford shots on goal, good for an .818 save percentage.

Stat of the game: Nine, that is the number of saves that Leaman recorded, giving her 14 for the season in the first two games.
