CLINTON, S.C. – With two on and no outs in the 10th, TJ Richardson reached on a bunt single and on the play an errant throw by the pitcher allowed Glen Casaceli to score from second to give Presbyterian College the 2-1 walk-off victory in the series finale against Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose now stand at 23-23 overall and 11-7 in Big South play, while Gardner-Webb drops to 22-21 overall and 9-9 in the Big South.

How It Happened

PC got on the board first with a lone run in the bottom of the second. Connor Slagill hit his third home run of the season with a drive to left field to put his team in front 1-0.

Gardner-Webb got its lone run of the game in fourth inning. After a flyout, Chandler Redmond and Gage Parham got back-to-back singles with Mason Fox reaching on a hit-by-pitch to load the bases with one out. Chris Clary then drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Redmond and tie the game at 1-1. PC starter Hayden Deal would minimize the damage with a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Neither team would manage to scratch across a run through the remainder of regulation, sending the game to extra innings tied at 1-1.

In the 10th, Casaceli was hit by a pitch and Brett Auckland slapped one through the left side to put the first two aboard in the ninth. Richardson then placed a perfect bunt on the third base side and a wild throw by the Gardner-Webb pitcher got by the first baseman and allowed Casaceli to score from second to end the game and give PC the 2-1 victory to take the series.

Pitchers of Record

PC reliever Eric Miles (5-0) earned the win with more good work out of the bullpen, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings in relief in which he allowed four hits and one walk against three strikeouts.

GWU reliever Wil Sellers (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing one run on one hit with three walks and two hit batters in 1.1 innings of work. Sellers exited the game in the ninth with both runners on base his responsibility.
