CLINTON, S.C. – Longwood scored 15 goals in the opening half and handed the Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team a 23-1 Big South loss Thursday afternoon at Martin Stadium. PC falls to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the Big South. Longwood is now 6-10, 2-4.

The visitors outshot the Blue Hose 36-11, including a 24-4 shot margin in the first 30 minutes of play. The Lancers also picked up more ground balls (25-16), earned more draw controls (20-5), completed more clears (19-17), and had more free-position shots (6-2). PC recorded more saves (10-9) and committed fewer turnovers (16-17).

Jess Goergen scored her only shot for PC’s lone goal. Claire Frase earned the assist on the play and added a ground ball and a draw control. Alexandra Cole picked up three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Maura Talvacchia totaled two ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover. Lee-Ann Salim recorded seven saves against 20 shots (35.0 save percentage) with a team-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers in just over 39 minutes of work.
Longwood Players of the Game
Stephanie Roberts and Kaitlin Luccarelli paced the Lancers with six and five goals respectively. Riley Dolan and Molly Barkman both contributed three goals with five assists. Luccarelli led the visitors with six ground balls. Barkman won 12 draw controls, while Hollyn Royster and Luccarelli both caused two turnovers. Imani West played the opening half in the cage and earned the win. The junior made three saves on three shots with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
How It Happened
Longwood poured on the shots in the first half, scoring a quick pair in the opening minute. Luccarelli posted a hat trick to push the Lancer lead to 7-0 at the 24:41 mark. Dolan earned her hat trick with back-to-back scores that made it a 10-0 game with 20:06 to play. Cassie Angeles netted her third of the game (14-0; 9:19) and Andie deCelis found the back of the net for her second goal of the season to round out the scoring in the first 30 minutes. Longwood was in control 15-0 at the break.
The second half began with another pair of Lancer goals before Frase found Goergen to put PC on the board. Angeles followed two minutes later with her second goal on the day and Roberts scored five straight to wrap up the game.
- With the win, Longwood now leads the all-time series 10-0.
- Goergen’s eighth goal of the season is the senior’s first since she posted two goals at Kennesaw State on March 20.
- With the assist, Frase has earned a point in three of the past four games.
- The seven saves and four ground balls mark season highs for Salim. The junior was just shy of tying her career single-game high of three caused turnovers (vs. Army on March 14, 2016).
- The 16 ground balls tie a season low (16 at Campbell on April 5).
