CLINTON, SC. – The Presbyterian College softball team split a doubleheader with Appalachian State Thursday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex. The Mountaineers won the first game 4-1 and the Blue Hose held off the visitors late to take game two 4-3.

Blue Hose Players of the Games

Hope Rogers went 4-for-6 at the plate, including a solo home run and a double in the second game. The senior shortstop had the one RBI and scored a pair of runs. Kelsie Sanchez was 2-for-6 on the day with a pair of singles a walk. The senior outfielder also scored a run.

How It Happened

Game one was scoreless until the Mountaineers jumped ahead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Presley Bissett came in to pinch hit at the bottom of the inning and got the Blue Hose on the board with a sac fly to straight-away center. The visitors added another run in the top of the sixth for the final score.

In game two, Rogers opened the scoring with a solo shot over the left-field fence, her first of the year, in the bottom of the first. PC added another run in the bottom of the second as Blaire Miller tagged up on a Kylie Young sacrifice fly to center field. The Blue Hose added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the third as Sanchez reached home on a wild pitch and Rogers scored on an App. State error. Cara Parker hit a pair of solo shots and App. State added another score to close the gap. The Mountaineers were threatening with bases loaded and no outs in the top of the seventh, but Alex Cook entered the game in relief. The junior struck out a pair and induced a pop-up to grab the save as PC held on for the victory.
