Elon broke open a close contest with six runs in the fourth inning to take the 7-2 win over the Presbyterian College softball team in Saturday action at the Elon Phoenix Tournament in Elon, N.C.

Blue Hose Players of the Game
Kylie Young led the team with two hits, including a double in the fifth. Kelsie Sanchez, Megan Anderson, and Cassie Nichols each had a hit apiece.

Final Lines
PC scored two runs off five hits, with two errors, while Elon posted seven runs off six hits, with two errors.

Katie Brown took the loss (5-6) after going 3.0 innings and giving up two earned runs and three hits. Kiandra Mitchum (6-4) earned the win, going 4.0 innings, with one run and no hits, with six strikeouts.

Scoring the Game
After a scoreless first couple of innings, Elon got on the board with a RBI groundout from Alaina Hall. PC responded in the top of the fourth after back to back Elon errors enabled Hope Rogers to score the tying run.

Elon jumped out to a 7-1 lead with six runs in the bottom of the fourth, the first of the frame coming off a RBI double from Erica Sarafini. With bases loaded Callie Horn drew a RBI walk, with a PC error the next play clearing the bases. Kara Shutt gave Elon its sixth run of the inning with a RBI single.

PC picked up a run in the top of the seventh off a Lindsay Harris RBI fielder’s choice, but that would be it as Elon came away with the 7-2 win.

Cassie Nichols, in her first career at-bat for the Blue Hose, recorded a single.

For the Record
PC drops to 9-14, while Elon improves to 13-8.
