ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville earned the wire-to-wire victory Wednesday night at Kimmel Arena as the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team fell to the Bulldogs 89-48. The Blue Hose fall to 5-21 on the season and 1-14 in the Big South, while the Bulldogs sweep the conference series for a 21-7, 13-2 record.

Players of the Game

Reggie Dillard shot 5-of-9 from the field, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line to lead PC in the loss with 14 points. The redshirt-junior guard pulled down two rebounds with an assist and a steal.

UNCA was paced by MaCio Teague’s 18 points. The freshman guard went 7-for-11 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from deep, and added five boards, an assist, and two steals.

Stat of the Game

The Bulldogs shot 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) from beyond the arc, including nine three-pointers in the second half. UNCA also made 21-of-33 (63.6 percent) free-throw attempts while the Blue Hose only made 3-of-11 (27.3 percent) charity shots.

How It Happened

UNC Asheville opened the scoring with a Kevin Vannatta layup, and then followed with a pair of three-pointers by Teague and David Robertson. Robertson continued the run with a turnaround jumper in the lane before Armel TeTe scored PC’s first points with a bucket down low. The teams then traded buckets before a pair of Bulldog free-throws made it 14-4 at the 14:14 mark in the opening half.

Ruben Arroyo got into the scorer’s column as Jaron Withers found the junior forward underneath for an easy basket. After the hosts pushed their lead to 20-6, Dillard beat the buzzer with a deep ball from the top of the key, but UNCA answered in kind with a pair of long-range scores. Following a pair of UNCA charity shots, Dillard knocked down a pullup jumper from the left side to make it 28-11 with 8:55 to play in the first.

Ed Drew went 1-for-2 from the line for his first points of the night, but Giacomo Zilli converted both of his free shots to push the Bulldog lead to 33-14. Withers then drove to the basket for the layup. Towards the end of the half, Teague made a trifecta to give UNCA a 41-20 lead at the break.

The Blue Hose shot 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from the field, 1-of-6 (16.7 percent) from beyond the arc, and 1-of-5 (20.0 percent) from the line in the first 20 minutes of action. PC held the advantage with points in the paint (14-8).

Teague made his third deep ball of the night to kick off the second half. After Dillard scored a bucket, Ahmad Thomas followed with a floater in the paint and Teague put up a layup to make it 48-22 with 16:20 on the clock. The Bulldogs went up by 30 as Teague made another three-ball and Thomas converted 1-of-2 shots from the charity stripe.

JC Younger finally ended the 14-0 UNCA run with a three-pointer from the left corner. Arroyo and Dillard knocked down back-to-back threes to cut the lead to 67-35 with 7:15 remaining, but Drew Rackley made a pair of deep balls and Thomas scored a bucket to take the game to the 5:58 mark.

The teams traded several three-pointers late in the half, with Younger making another pair of long-range shots from the corner. UNCA would take the game by a final score of 89-48.


- Right behind Dillard in scoring was Younger with 13 points. The freshman guard found his shot in his first game back from an elbow injury, shooting 5-of-10 from the field and 3-for-5 from deep with one board.

- Arroyo contributed seven points and led the Blue Hose on the glass with seven rebounds.

- PC shot 19-of-49 (38.8 percent) from the field and 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from beyond the arc.

- The Bulldogs led by as many as 47 points (3:02 in the second half).
