Taylor Cornett is in his second season with the PC program and his first as tight ends coach at PC. He was promoted to full-time status in January 2017 after spending last season after spending last season as an offensive assistant with the Blue Hose.


Prior to joining the PC staff, Cornett spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Appalachian State. After assisting with Appalachian’s defense in 2014, he moved to the offensive side of the ball in 2015 and served as the Mountaineers’ tight ends coach as he pursued a master’s degree in educational media. Coached tight end Barrett Burns, who tied the school's single-season touchdown record (8 TDs) and was named to the 2016 Preseason John Mackey award watch list.


He made to the move to Appalachian State after a one-season stint at Brevard, where he coached wide receivers, tight ends and special teams in 2013. The Tornadoes’ led the South Atlantic Conference in kick-return yardage under Cornett’s tutelage. He was promoted to offensive line coach at Brevard in 2014 before accepting the position at App State.


Cornett began his coaching career at West Port High School in Ocala, Fla., where he served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in 2011-12. He also coached the offensive line during his two-year stint at the high-school level.


Cornett, a native of Columbia, S.C., earned a pair of All-Conference honors at tight end during a four-year playing career at former in-state foe The Citadel. He graduated from Charleston, S.C. school with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2009. Cornett graduated from Dutch Fork High School prior to attending the Citadel.
