Down by a set, the Wofford volleyball team won the next three to defeat Presbyterian College, 3-1 in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C. PC took set one, 25-21, but Wofford won the remaining sets by scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-18.


Set by Set
Tied 11-11 in the first set, PC outscored the Terriers, 9-4, to take a 20-15 lead. The Terriers cut the lead to two, 20-18, but the Blue Hose scored the next five of eight points, which included kills from Samantha Del Toro and Sierra Davis, to win 25-21.

Close for much of the second set, Wofford turned a 15-15 tie into a 21-17 lead off a 6-2 run. Down 24-20, PC cut the margin to two off a Halle Tripp kill, but a ball handling error the next play gave the Terriers the 25-22 win.

Wofford jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set, eventually extending it to 15-7 off five unanswered. PC chipped away at the lead, cutting it to three at 20-17. The Blue Hose would get just one point the remainder of the set, a kill from Erin Eulitz, as PC used a 5-1 run to take the 25-18 victory.

PC trailed early in the fourth set by just one, 6-5, but Wofford scored the next seven points, three in a row coming off service aces from Cronister, to jump out to a 13-5 lead, a Tripp kill ending the Blue Hose drought. Down by 11, 23-12, PC scored the set’s next six of seven points to make it 24-18, but ran out of time with a PC service error giving Wofford the 25-18 set and match win.

Players of the Match
Samantha Del Toro led the Blue Hose on offense with 12 kills and just two errors off 16 attacks for a .625 hitting percentage. Sara Rogers posted 26 assists, with Mikayla Register finishing with 11 digs. Ashton Stewart recorded a team-leading six blocks, with Del Toro posting five on the evening.

Catie Cronister paced Wofford with 16 kills, while Lorissa King recorded 20 assists and Bijonae Jones 12 digs. Cronister led the Terriers in service aces with five.

Stats of the Match
Wofford edged PC in kills, 47-43, and in errors, 26-24, with the Terriers coming out ahead on hitting percentage, .164-.151. The Terriers had 10 aces to PC’s three, with the Blue Hose finishing with 11 blocks to the Terriers’ eight.

Record
PC drops to 4-20 overall, while Wofford improves to 14-12.
