BURLINGTON, NC – The Presbyterian College men’s golf team finished sixth at the Elon Phoenix Invitational played at the par-71 Alamance Country Club (6,867 yards). Sophomore James Scott led the way with a 12th place showing.
Scott recorded a collegiate-best round of 65 (-6) on Monday that put him a fourth-place tie entering Tuesday’s final round. He ended the tournament tied for 12th with a collegiate-best 54-hole score of 209 (70, 65, 74) at four-under.
Hayden Ploeger used four birdies an an eagle on hole No. 12 (par-5) to record the team’s low round on Tuesday (-2) and climbed into a 23rd place tie at 212 (73, 70, 69). Cole Patterson (t42nd) shot 217, Carson Spears (t51st) shot 219 and Harrison Fisher (t79) shot 229.
Gardner-Webb won the tournament with a combined score of 830. George Mason’s Eric Edwards, Elon’s Jake Leavitt and UNC’s Jose Montano all tied for medalist honors at 203 (-10).
The Blue Hose will return to play at the Palmetto Collegiate, played at the Camden Country Club, beginning on October 21.
