CONWAY, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team (18-15, 5-5 Big South) scored two ninth-inning runs but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback, as the Blue Hose  fell at Coastal Carolina (25-10, 9-1 Big South), 5-2, on Friday evening at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C. The two teams continue the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.

Weston Jackson led PC at the plate with a 2-for-4 night, including his team-leading seventh home run of the season. Jacob Midkiff reached base three times, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Each of the top seven hitters in the PC lineup, including Jackson and Midkiff, recorded a hit to account for the team’s eight hits. The Blue Hose were able to get the leadoff man aboard in six of their nine at-bats.

Coastal Carolina starter Alex Cunningham (6-1) compiled a strong outing for the Chanticleers, pitching a complete game and allowing two runs on eight hits with no walks against nine strikeouts. PC starter Brian Kehner tossed 6.0 innings and allowed five runs on six hits with no walks against four strikeouts.

The PC bullpen continued its strong work of late, throwing 2.0 scoreless frames. Nick Wise recorded a scoreless seventh inning, allowing a lone hit with a pair of strikeouts. Trey Hayes then worked a scoreless eighth, surrendering a pair of singles but keeping CCU off the board.

PC got both of its runs with a late charge in the ninth inning. Jackson led off with a long, solo home run to left to break up the shutout. AJ Priaulx then reached on an error in a pinch-hit at-bat to put a runner on with no outs. Guy Casaceli would come on to pinch run and two batters later Rob Koski doubled to left center to score him from first and make it a 5-2 game.

The Chanticleers opened the game with a run in its first at-bat. Michael Paez reached with one out on a hit-by-pitch and moved to second on a groundout. Zach Remillard then singled to left to score Paez from second and give CCU a 1-0 lead.

PC was able to get the leadoff man aboard in the second, third and fourth innings. The first two batters reached in both the second and fourth innings but the Blue Hose were unable to get anything across either time.

Coastal Carolina added single runs in both in the fourth and fifth innings on solo home run. Connor Owings hit a solo shot to right in the fourth to make it 2-0, before G.K. Young cleared the fence with a drive to right to make it 3-0.

The Chanticleers added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. A double, a bunt single and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with no outs. A pinch-hit sacrifice fly to right by Kevin Woodall plated the first one, before a sacrifice bunt by Seth Lancaster drove in the second to make it 5-0.

Owings led the Chanticleers with two extra-base hits, two runs and an RBI. Lancaster went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the bottom of the order.
