ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team used a six-run fifth and a four-run sixth to propel its way to a 13-8 victory over Big South foe UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field in Asheville, N.C. The Blue Hose even the series at a game apiece with the rubber match set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Ryan Hedrick led the Blue Hose at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.  He is the first Blue Hose player to hit two home runs in a game since March 24, 2015 when Cam McRae hit two at USC Upstate. Weston Jackson also continued his strong play against the Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs, three RBIs and two stolen bases.

Tyler Weyenberg went 2-for-5 with two runs to extend his hitting streak to 21 straight games. Jacob Midkiff also added two hits with a run and an RBI, while Brett Auckland scored twice. The 13 runs by PC are the most in a conference game since May 21, 2011 when PC defeated UNC Asheville, 23-17, also in Asheville.

Michael Trebendis (1-0) earned his first victory of the season with 1.1 innings of relief work, allowing just one run on one hits with one strikeout and no walks. Asheville starter Jordan Carr (1-5) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Hunter Kyzar and Trey Hayes combined to throw 3.0 scoreless frames to finish out the game for PC, allowing three hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

PC got on the board in the top of the first inning with a single run, as Weyenberg opened the game with a double to right and Jackson drove him two batters later on an RBI groundout. UNC Asheville responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-RBI double by Lucas Owens to take a 2-1 lead.

PC tied it in the second inning, as Ryan Hedrick hit his first home run of the season with a solo drive to left field to make it 2-2. The Bulldogs retook the lead with two runs in the third. A leadoff single put a runner on for Joe Tietjen, who hit a two-run home run to left to make a 4-2 lead UNCA lead. PC cut the lead to one with a single run in the top of the fourth, as a sac fly by Colton Chapman scored Jackson to make it 4-3.

The Blue Hose then sent nine men to the plate in the fifth to bust the game open with six runs. Auckland and Weyenberg singled to lead off the inning and Avery reached on an error that allowed Auckland to score. Then, with runners on second and third, Jackson got an RBI single to plate Weyenberg to put PC in front. Later in the inning, with a runner on third after Jackson stole home, Chapman came through again with an RBI triple. Hedrick then capped it off with his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to left, to push the PC lead to 9-4.

UNC Asheville answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with one out and a pair of singles and a walk. Scott Kobos hit a two-run single to right to plate two and a sac fly brought home the other to make it 9-7.

PC would pick up where it left off in the sixth, putting four more runs across. With runners on the corners and one out, Jackson singled up the middle to drive in Auckland from third. AJ Priaulx followed with a two-RBI single to right to plate both runners on base, before a double by Midkiff drove in the fourth run of the inning to extend the lead to 13-7.

Asheville picked up one more in the sixth on a solo home run by Derek Smith, cutting the lead to 13-8. Neither team got a run in the final three frames, though, as both teams combined for just four hits in their last three at-bats.

Kobos had a big day at the plate to lead the Bulldogs, going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Tietjen went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Dan Wilson was 2-for-5 with three runs scored.
