THIBODAUX, La. – The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team split two matches against Lamar and Nicholls State on Wednesday in Thibodaux, La. The Blue Hose fell to Lamar, 6-1, early in the day, before rebounding with a 6-1 against Nicholls State in the afternoon.
PC claimed the doubles point in both matches to take a 1-0 lead in both. Brandon Mills and Alexander Lykou earned wins at No. 1 in both matches with scores of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. Danny Bruce and Ben Kelley teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 2 against Nicholls State, while Diego Manzanas and Alejandro Bejar paired up for a 6-0 win on court three against Lamar.
In singles, Lamar swept the six singles matches but PC took five of the six against Nicholls State. Five of the six matches against NSU went to three sets in a very competitive match.
Bejar pulled out a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 on court two against the Colonels and Bruce followed at No. 3 with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 victory. Manzanas won in three sets on court four at 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 and Mills continued his winning ways with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5. Kelley then rounded it out with a 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Blue Hose return to action on March 14 with a conference match against Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C.
