SPARTANBURG, SC – The Presbyterian College men’s and women’s cross country teams battled heavy rain and cold temperatures at the Upstate Invitational / Big South Preview Meet on Saturday morning.

Freshman Sally Hart (Raleigh, NC) had another strong performance to lead the Blue Hose, crossing the line at 20:22. Ripley Fricano (Atlanta, Ga) and Bea DiBona (Charleston, SC) ran 21:16 and 21:20, respectively, to finish second and third for PC. Rounding out the top-5, Hydia Green (Union, SC) and Sarah Jennings (Lexington, SC) ran 23:12 and 23:25. Abby Waldron (Clinton, SC) ran 25:16.

High Point’s Kelly Hayes won the 5k by nearly 20 seconds with an impressive time of 18:18. However, Appalachian State edged the Panthers, 47 to 49, to take the women’s team title.

Freshman Preston Meade (Alpharetta, Ga) led the men’s team with an 8k of 27:35. Not too far behind, Duncan Gotfredson (Berkeley Lake, Ga) crossed in 27:56. Reid McCandless (Fort Mill, SC) ran 29:41 while Chris Sacco (Rock Hill, SC) and Alex Johnson (Lexington, SC) rounded out the top-5 at 30:24 and 30:59 respectively. Caleb Weathers (Woodruff, SC) ran 32:04, and Jake Birdsong (Summerville, SC) ran 32:58.

High Point placed its top-5 in the top-10 and won the team title with a low score of 28 points. The Panthers’ Vinny Todaro won the individual 8k title with another impressive time of 25:28.

The Blue Hose will next race at the Disney Cross Country Classic on October 10.
