CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College football team amassed 298 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers en route to a 23-13 victory in its home opener against Campbell on Saturday night at Bailey Memorial Stadium.

The Blue Hose (1-2) earned their first victory of the season and have now won four straight home openers. The Camels (2-1) dropped their first game on the short campaign.

The Blue Hose defense recorded three takeaways in the contest with PC getting points off two. Ed Britt had a 42-yard interception return in the first quarter that led to a score. Shonquille Byers scooped up a fumble in the third quarter and returned it to the one-yard line that also resulted in points. Kevin Crawford added a second-quarter interception that also set up a scoring chance.

Darrell Bridges rushed for a game-high 132 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries to lead the Blue Hose offense. Bridges has now rushed for over 125 yards in two of the first three games and has at least one touchdown in all three.

Tamyn Garrick came off-the-bench to go 6-for-13 passing for 127 yards for PC. Marquel Hines totaled 42 receiving yards to lead the team while Bridges added 42 receiving yards and Daryl Wilson had the second longest pass play of the night, a 29-yard reception.

Donelle Williams led the team with 11 tackles and a 1.5 tackles for loss. Darius Norfleet and Obinna Ntiasagwe each recorded a sack in the victory.

Campbell started the scoring on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Kameron Bryant to Jared Joyner. PC would block the ensuing extra point attempt and Steve Osondu returned it 98 yards for two points to make the score 6-2 midway through the first quarter.

PC took its first lead of the season on a seven-yard touchdown run by Malik Risher in the second quarter. Britt grabbed the first of two PC interceptions and returned it 42 yards to set it up. The score put the Blue Hose ahead 9-6 after the extra point with 13:25 remaining in the second quarter.

The Blue Hose added to the lead on its next drive with a seven-play, 80-yard drive capped off by Bridges first score of the game from 21 yards out, resulting in the halftime score 16-6.

Bridges would find the end zone again in third quarter from the one-yard line after Byers 57-yard fumble return. The score put PC in front 23-13 with 4:56 remaining in the quarter.

Campbell would edge closer early in the fourth quarter on a 13-play, 75-yard drive that spanned 7:53. Ricky Brown capped it off with a 26-yard touchdown from Kameron Bryant to cut the lead to 23-13, the eventual final score.

PC held Campbell to 260 yards in the contest, the fewest by an opponent this season, while winning the time of possession battle with 33:14 to 26:46.

The Blue Hose will return to action next Saturday, September 26, when they host Chattanooga at 7 p.m.
