The Presbyterian College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Clemson Friday night at the Clemson Classic being held Sept. 11-12 in Clemson, S.C. The Tigers took the sweep with set wins of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-16.
PC falls to 2-7 on the year, while Clemson improves to 4-4. The Blue Hose round out tournament play with an 11 a.m., match against East Tennessee State Saturday.
The Blue Hose recorded 29 kills and 23 errors for a .062 hitting percentage, with Rachel Elshoff leading the way with seven kills. She was helped by six kills from Samantha Del Toro and five from Sierra Davis. Sara Rogers finished with 25 assists, while Elshoff rounded out the defensive effort with 11 digs.
Clemson out blocked PC 11-2, and posted35 kills, with just nine errors for a .321 hitting percentage. Kailey Harvell led the Tigers with 11 kills, while Keelie Arneson added 12 digs and Kate Federico 26 assists.
PC opened the first set with a 6-3 lead but Clemson stormed back with an 11-3 run to go ahead 14-9. The Blue Hose cut the margin to three at 15-12, helped part to kills by Elshoff and Sierra Davis. The Tigers responded with seven of the set’s next nine points to build a 21-14 lead and take the eventual 25-17 win.
A close second set early, PC trailed by just two, 17-15, before the Tigers outscored the Blue Hose 8-2 to earn the 25-17 victory. Much of the same story in the third, Clemson held on to the slight 9-7 lead until a 9-3 run made it 18-10. The Tigers built a nine-point, 23-14 lead, before settling on the 25-16 fourth set and match win.
