Florida Gulf Coast held Presbyterian College to a .095 hitting percentage, while recording a .212 en route to a 3-0 win over the Blue Hose in the final match of the FGCU Hilton Garden/Homewood Suites Classic held in Fort Myers, Fla. PC fell by scores of 25-14, 26-24, and 25-21.
PC, which drops to 1-2, returns to Clinton Wednesday, Sept. 2, to take on Wofford at the Templeton Center at 7 p.m. FGCU improves to 3-0.
After dropping game one, 25-14, PC stormed out of the gates in the second to take an 8-2 lead. FGCU used an 8-2 run to cut the Blue Hose lead to just one, before taking tying the set at 14-14. The set saw seven more ties, the last coming at 24-24. FGCU used a service ace and a PC error to post the 26-24 win.
A close third set as well, the Blue Hose and Eagles played through 11 ties, the last time coming at 20-20 off a Sierra Davis kill. Three straight from the Eagles made it 23-20, however. After a FGCU error made it 23-21, Amanda Carroll gave the Eagles set and match point. A PC error sealed the deal as FGCU took the 25-21 win.
PC finished with 29 kills, compared to 39 for FGCU, with Davis pacing the Blue Hose with nine, and Carroll leading the Eagles with 13. FGCU had eight total kills, while PC had five on the night.
Ashton Stewart picked up All-Tournament honors for her play during the weekend.
