McCandless Leads Blue Hose at Carolina Challenge
COLUMBIA, SC – The Presbyterian College men’s cross country team finished 4th at the Carolina Challenge on Saturday morning. Junior Reid McCandless and sophomore Chris Sacco earned top-20 finishes to lead the team.
McCandless (Fort Mill, SC) finished 18th with a time of 18:28 while Sacco was 20th with an improved time of 18:35. In his first collegiate race, senior Jaron Pettis (Columbia, SC) finished 24th with a time of 19:25. Junior Caleb Weathers (Woodruff, SC) was 25th (20:26), while seniors Paul Rice (Hartwell, Ga) and Billy Joe Mullinax (Honea Path, SC) were 26th and 27th, also in their first collegiate races, with times of 21:35 and 22:01 respectively.
Tennessee Tech’s Geoffrey Sambu ran 15:37 to win the race. The Golden Eagles also won the team title with 25 points. The Citadel finished second (37), Pfeiffer third (75) and PC fourth (113).
The Blue Hose will be back in action on Friday evening at the Eye Opener in Spartanburg, S.C.
