Men's Soccer Falls to High Point in Big South Action

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men’s soccer team dropped its 2013 road finale on Wednesday with a 6-1 defeat to the High Point Panthers at Vert Stadium.

PC moves to 3-14-0 on the season and 1-8-0 in Big South play. The Blue Hose will wrap up the campaign on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Campbell for the team’s Senior Night. High Point improves to 7-7-3 on the year and 5-2-2 in league action.

Josh Carter (Anchorage, Alaska) scored for the Blue Hose in the 81st minute. The junior forward laced a free kick from 20 yards out that beat goalkeeper Kody Palmer on the near post for a score. The goal marked Carter’s sixth of the season to tie teammate Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay) for the team lead.

High Point scored one goal in the first half before notching five in the second. Mamadee Nyepon scored the first in the fifth minute before Chris Ramsell made it 2-0 in favor of the Panthers 9:28 after the halftime break. Adam Sewell assisted on both goals.

Ben Burdon scored two minutes later before assisting on an Erien Campbell goal in the 63rd minute. Adam Sewell tallied a goal of his own to make it 5-0 High Point before Carter struck for the Blue Hose. Dom de Aragao capped the scoring in the 82nd minute with help from Dolu Oyewole and Matt Gweh.

Mason Lewis (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) nearly scored for the Blue Hose in the 32nd minute when a header shot appeared destined for the open goal before a Panther defender knocked the chance away.

PC sophomore goalkeeper Johnny Archer (Charlotte, N.C.) received the start and played the first half, stopping a career-high three shots in the effort. Senior Tanner Osborne (Lexington, S.C.) entered the game at the break and made two saves.

Lews, Monchetti, Nico Fazio (Roswell, Ga.) and Cade Crow (Liberty, Mo.) each tallied two shots for the Blue Hose, who created five corner kicks to High Point’s three.
