CLINTON, SC – The Presbyterian College cross country teams will travel to compete in the 27th annual Winthrop/Adidas Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at the Winthrop Lake course.
A total of 19 schools will be competing in the women’s 5k race with 18 of those teams also competing in the men’s 8k. The men's race will start things off at 9 a.m. followed by the women at 9:45 a.m. Following the college races, events will be held for high school boys and girls.
The Blue Hose raced at Winthrop twice last season with it serving as the 2012 Big South Championship course. Seniors Ryan Wasilewski (Greenville, S.C.) and Seth Warner (Fort Mill, S.C.) led the men’s team at those races with Warner running a season’s best 29:33 to end the year. Juniors Gabriele Lesieur (Augusta, Ga.) and Jessica Hatchell (Darlington, S.C.) led the women’s team with times of 20:45 and 21:11 respectively.
Fans should also have an eye out for sophomore Reid McCandless (Fort Mill, S.C.) who led the men’s team last week as well as freshman Sarah Jennings (Lexington, S.C.) who ran 20:45 on the course last season as a high school senior.
In addition to Winthrop and PC, the other colleges and universities entered include: Alabama-Huntsville, Anderson (SC), Appalachian State, Benedict, Claflin, Davidson (women only), Emmanuel, Emory & Henry, Erskine, Gardner-Webb, Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill, Shorter, South Carolina State, Spartanburg Methodist, Western Carolina, Wofford.
Awards will be presented following the meet to the top two teams and the top 12 individual finishers in both races.
Admission is free for this event and parking will be available in the Winthrop Coliseum lot.
