A trip to the Cancun Challenge, as well as stops at Georgia Tech and Wake Forest highlight the Presbyterian College’s 31-game 2013-14 schedule as the Blue Hose celebrate their 100 years.
“We have a very challenging road schedule early as eight of our first nine games are outside of Clinton,” said Head Coach Gregg Nibert, who is in his 25th year at PC. “I have one of the youngest teams in 25 years of coaching with not one senior on the roster.”
PC opens the season, Nov. 8, in Atlanta, Ga., against a Georgia Tech team the Blue Hose led at halftime, 25-24, before falling late. The next stops are at The Citadel Nov. 12, and at Wake Forest Nov. 15. The Blue Hose earned their first ACC win in 2010 against the Demon Deacons, defeating the team, 66-64.
“I am excited about playing Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia. After earning a huge win back in 2010, I am looking forward to the rematch with the Demon Deacons.”
After returning to Clinton for a Nov. 18 game against Toccoa Falls, the Blue Hose head to Old Dominion Nov. 21, and West Virginia Nov. 23, as part of the Cancun Challenge. PC flies out to Cancun Nov. 26-27, to take on Bowling Green, and either Oral Roberts or Georgia Southern.”
The Blue Hose travel to UNC Greensboro Dec. 3, before heading home for four straight at Templeton Center. In all PC will face 18 road opponents and 13 at home.
“We do have a great schedule after our first nine games with four straight at home in December, with Montreat, the Paladins, Tennessee Martin and Appalachian State. That will gear us up to open Big South play against Winthrop Jan. 8.”
Following Montreat Dec. 5, the Blue Hose host Furman Dec. 7. During that game PC will take time celebrate its 100 years on the hardwood with festivities to honor the history of the basketball team.
“It is great to be 100 years of Blue Hose basketball, and I look forward to us honoring the past achievements when we host Furman, our first opponent in 1913, December 7.”
PC hosts Tennessee Martin Dec. 16 and Appalachian State Dec. 18, before traveling to Samford to take on the Bulldogs Dec. 30. After heading to Marshall Jan. 5, the Blue Hose open Big South play against Winthrop at home Jan. 8.
The Blue Hose will play home-and-home conference games against the Eagles, UNC Asheville, Charleston Southern, Gardner Webb and Coastal Carolina this season. PC hosts High Point, Longwood and Radford, while traveling to Liberty, VMI and Campbell in single games.
This year’s VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championships will be held Mar. 5-9 at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina.
