ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team (18-16, 5-4 Big South) heads to Asheville, N.C. this weekend for a three-game series at UNC Asheville (11-24, 1-8 Big South) that begins on Friday at 3 p.m. at Greenwood field.
PC will look to snap a five-game losing streak (its longest of the season) following a hard-luck 5-4 loss to Clemson on Wednesday night. The Blue Hose scored in three straight innings to take a 4-3 lead after seven before Tigers broke a tie in the ninth inning.
Beau Dees (4-2, 1.82 ERA), Chandler Knox (2-3, 5.59 ERA) and Bud Jeter (4-2, 1.85 ERA) will likely start for PC and UNC Asheville will counter with Lucas Clarke (1-2, 4.50 ERA), Dean Roland (1-6, 5.19 ERA) and Dillon Tabar (2-2, 4.98 ERA). Dees and Jeter own the fourth and fifth-best ERAs in the Big South, respectively, while Jeter leads the league in strikeouts (58). Dees ranks seventh in that category, with 40.
Brandon Paul leads the Blue Hose with a .320 batting average while Brad Zebedis’s (Rock Hill, S.C.) 20 RBI pace the squad. Zebedis enters the weekend on a 10-game reached-base streak and his six multiple-RBI game also ranks as the most for PC this season.
Asheville grabbed an 8-5 road win from Wofford on Wednesday night after dropping two of three to Charlotte and coming up short to Appalachian State on Tuesday at home. Both Campbell and Charleston Southern have swept the Bulldogs this season and the team’s lone Big South win came against Longwood on March 17. Ian Graham leads the team with a .367 batting average and his 21 RBI rank second on the squad.
The Blue Hose swept Asheville in 2011 before taking two of three from the Bulldogs at home last season. Jeter grabbed a win in the last meeting, shutting out the Bulldogs over seven innings of work.
Following this weekend, PC continues its road stretch with a Tuesday, April 16 road test at Georgia.
