ORLANDO, Fla. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team split two matches in its final day of its spring break trip to Orlando on Friday, falling to Saint Joseph’s, 5-2, before blanking Saginaw Valley State, 7-0.

PC ends the day at 5-7 and will travel to Wofford on Wednesday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. match.

Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) and Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) won both of their singles matches on Friday afternoon.

PC 7, Saginaw Valley State, 0

The Blue Hose bounced back from an earlier loss to Saint Joseph’s to shut out Saginaw Valley State, 7-0.

PC won all nine matches, beginning with three doubles contests. The closest result came at the first flight when Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) and Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) gutted out a 9-7 win over Yunjiao Shangguan and Meghan Woody.

In the final two doubles matches, the duo of Alves and Courtney Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.) along with Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) and Haley Elliott (Greenville, S.C.) won doubles matches by 8-1 scores.

In singles action, Ransom rolled to a top-flight win over Yunjiao Shangguan, 6-3, 6-2, while Alves finished her 2-0 day at the second flight by blanking Meghan Woody, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 3, deLoach rolled past Erin Doud, 6-1, 6-0 and Krause dispatched Charlotte Wong at No. 4, 6-1, 7-5.

Kayla Stanford (Canton, Ga.) took a fifth-flight win over Sean Potter, 6-0, 6-3 while Elliott knocked off Kassie Van Alst, 6-1, 6-1.

Saint Joseph’s 5, PC 2

PC took one match in doubles before taking two singles matches against Saint Joseph's. Alves and Gardiner knocked off Lauren Roy and Kristina Eisenbrand, 8-2, in doubles play.

PC’s two other pairs fell by hard-fought 8-5 margins.

Alves grabbed another win at No. 3 in singles action. The Blue Hose knocked off Kristina Eisenbrand, 6-1, 7-5.

deLoach then pushed past Devi Jadeja at the fourth flight, 6-2, 6-1. The win marked the sophomore’s fifth of the season to tie Alves for the team lead.
