CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Appalachian State at the Templeton Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon, 7-0.

PC moves to 3-4 on the year and will travel to Gardner-Webb for a 2 p.m. matchup. The match was originally scheduled for last week before rain forced the postponement. Appalachian State improves to 7-2 with the win.

The Blue Hose nearly took a win in doubles play as Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) and Haley Elliott (Greenville, S.C.) came up short at No. 3 to Brianna Armellino and Gabriela, Celi, 8-6.

In singles play, two Blue Hose fell by 6-4, 6-2 margins as Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) and deLoach stumbled against Ellie Linsell and Jennifer Ansari at the first and third flights, respectively.

Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) dropped a second-flight match to Clare Cox, 6-1, 6-1, while the Mountaineers’ Brianna Armellino held off Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.), 6-4, 6-0.

Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) and Elliott also fell at the fifth and sixth flights.

In earlier doubles action, Courtney Gardiner (Powder Springs, Ga.) played her first match since April 12, 2011 by teaming up with Alves at the second flight. The two battled hard but fell to Cox and Ansari, 8-4.
