Men's Basketball at Charleston Southern Tuesday

The Presbyterian College men's basketball team travels to Charleston, S.C., to take on the South Division leading Charleston Southern Bucs this Tuesday, Feb. 19.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m., and can be seen live on www.BigSouthSports.com as part of the Big South Network, sponsored by State Farm.

The Bucs hold a 10-6 mark in the overall series and have won the last three meetings, including a 79-59 decision Jan. 23 at the Templeton Center.  The last PC win came Feb. 12, 2011 with the 61-48 victory in Clinton ...

PC fell to Charleston Southern in its last game, despite out-shooting the Bucs, 62-60.  CSU hit 15-of-30 three pointers, compared to five-of-19 for PC, however.  The Blue Hose found success in the paint with the 30-18 advantage.

Charleston Southern is 14-9 overall and 9-3 in the Big South.  With its 73-65 win over UNC Asheville this past Saturday, the Bucs took sole possession of first in the league South Division.  Four players are averaging double-figures in scoring for the Bucs, with Saah Nimley leading the way at 16.3 a game.  Arlon Harper follows with 15.0 a game.  Paul Gombwer paces the team in rebounds with 60 a game.  CSU averages 75.4 points and 39.0 rebounds per game.

The Blue Hose, who defeated Winthrop, 64-57, in their last game, are 7-20 overall and 4-9 in the league.  Khalid Mutakabbir leads PC with 15.3 points per game, followed by Jordan Downing with 13.2.  Joshua Clyburn paces the squad with 5.8 rebounds per game.  As a team PC is averaging 62.0 points and 28.8 rebounds per game.

PC takes a break from conference action this Saturday as the Blue Hose host The Citadel as part of the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters.  Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m., after the women's team takes on High Point at 5 p.m.

The Blue Hose are fifth in the nation in free throw percentage (77.0) (first in the Big South) and 26th in fouls per game with 15.2 (as of Feb. 14) ... Khalid Mutakabbir is 33rd in the NCAA in FT shooting with 86.7% ... He connected on 27 in a row, dating back to the second half of the Liberty game Jan. 19 ... He broke the streak with a miss at the 15:05 mark in the second half against Radford Feb. 19 ...

The win over Gardner marked the first time this season the Blue Hose have been trailing at the 15-minute, 10-minute and 5-minute marks of the second half ... It also marked the first time this season Eric Washington has led in scoring with his 13 points ... It was only the second time in his career he has done so ...

The loss against UNC Asheville marked the first time in PC's Division I history the team has lost despite shooting over 60% ... The Blue Hose, who shot 62.2% against UNCA, are 4-1 since 2007 ... It also marked the first time this season PC has fallen after shooting over 50% from the field ... Sine 2007, the Blue Hose are 26-15 ...

Eric Washington is averaging 6.6 assists per game ... If that holds up he will shatter PC's Division I season record of 3.5 set by Pierre Miller in 2010-11 ... He already has the career assists mark with 4.3 ... Eric Washington has recorded two double-doubles so far this season, with 10 assists and 11 points against Liberty and 10 assists and 10 points against Longwood ...

The combination of Khalid Mutakabbir and Jordan Downing have proved to be a key for the Blue Hose offense in conference play ... Through 13 Big South games Mutakabbir is averaging 16.1 points, compared to his 15.3 a game overall ... Downing is averaging just under two points more in league play, 14.3 - 13.2 ... During the stretch, Mutakabbir has posted three 20-point games in the last three of four games, and had double-digit points in all but two ... Downing has scored in double-figures in all but one game and had a career-high 26 against Winthrop ...

PC has faced a total of 12 nationally ranked opponents since moving to Division I, including two games this season, against #13 Creighton and #24 Wisconsin ... PC is 1-10 over ranked opponents in its Division I era, the win a 56-54 decision over then 20th-ranked Cincinnati in 2011 ...

Behind a team-leading 19 points from Eric Washington, PC rallied back from a 17-point first-half deficit to tie the game at 45-45 with just over 12 minutes to go, but could not get ahead as Radford used a 15-5 run over the next six and a half minutes to pull away and take the eventual 76-65 win in the Blue Hose's last game ...

Four players scored in double-figures, including Ryan McTavish who recorded the team's final four points, to help PC preserve the 57-54 win over Gardner Webb ... Eric Washington led the team with 13 points ... GWU took the lead early in the second half, but PC retook it with a jumper by Joshua Clyburn at 2:06 and hung on for the victory ...

The Blue Hose picked up their second conference win with the 82-71 decision at Longwood ... Khalid Mutakabbir posted a career-high 29 points, and hit six-of-six from the charity stripe to lead the team in a perfect 16-of-16 effort in free throws ...

The Blue Hose earned their first conference win of the season with the 68-60 decision against Liberty ... Not only did Khalid Mutakabbir record a career-high 26 points, Joshua Clyburn posted his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds ... The victory over Liberty marked the first time this season the Blue Hose have won on a Saturday, won shooting less than 50% from the field and won after being out-rebounded ...

A close game for the Blue Hose got away at Creighton in Omaha, Neb. ... PC found itself down by just one, 10-9, with 11:44 left in the first half, but the Blue Jays used a 12-0 spurt off four straight three-pointers to turn the one-point advantage to 13, 22-9 ... Creighton led 43-17 at the half but the Blue Hose out-scored the Blue Jays 44-41 in the second half to fall by the final 85-58 score ... Jordan Downing exploded for a then career-high 25 points off four three-pointers, while Ryan McTavish added a career-mark team-leading six rebounds ...

The Blue Hose used an 11-2 run to take a 20-16 lead against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets late in the first half Nov. 14th ... PC went into the locker room with a 25-24 lead ...
