Trail, Lockman Named To All-Academic Teams

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Presbyterian College sophomore Jennifer Lockman and senior Brian Trail were named to the 2012 Big South Conference Cross Country All-Academic Teams on Saturday. VMI's Cabel Willis earned the men's Scholar-Athlete of the year while Winthrop's Jeanne Stroud won the women's honor.

Lockman (Woodruff, S.C.) is majoring in physics with an engineering dual degree concentration at PC. After her junior year, she will transfer to Clemson to complete her degree with an additional two years of classes. The sophomore was named to the Dean's List at PC both semesters as a freshman. She represents the women's cross country team on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Lockman ran a 26 second PR of 21:34 at the Gamecock Invitational.

Trail (Marion, S.C.) is an English major at PC who earned this honor for a second straight year. He is involved in several campus clubs as well as being "Scotty the Scotsman," PC's mascot at all major events. Trail is a five-time Dean's List recipient and also completed honors research in chemistry as a sophomore. He is a co-captain who saw his best race as a senior at the USC Upstate Invitational (31:09).

Willis is a junior history major at VMI. He has led the Keydets through most of the season and was voted their captain. He finished 11th at the Big South Championship with an 8k time of 25:20. Earlier in the year, he set his PR at 25:05. In the classroom, he has maintained a 3.99 GPA and earned academic stars.

Stroud is a junior English major at Winthrop. She has maintained a 3.93 GPA while also leading the Eagles all season. Stroud was twice named the Big South Female Runner of the Week this season, and she finished second overall at the Big South Championships with a school record of 17:24 on Saturday.
