PC Hosts UNC Asheville on Tuesday in Regular Season Finale
CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women’s soccer team (3-14-0, 3-7-0 Big South) wraps up the regular season and looks to qualify for the Big South Conference tournament when it hosts UNC Asheville (4-14-0, 2-8-0) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. A PC win combined with a Charleston Southern loss against Coastal Carolina (at 3 p.m.) would put the Blue Hose through to the quarterfinal this weekend.
UNC Asheville will bring a 4-14-0 overall record to Laurens County with a 2-8-0 Big South marker. The Bulldogs topped Gardner-Webb by a 3-2 count on Thursday in overtime before falling to Winthrop at home on Saturday, 3-1. The team’s two Big South wins came against GWU and VMI (4-2) on September 27. Kaitlyn Eckert leads the Bulldogs with nine goals and six assists for 24 points, ranking her second in the Big South in points.
The Blue Hose trail UNC Asheville in the all-time series, 1-3-0. The Bulldogs bumped off PC last season in Asheville, 3-0, but the Blue Hose won the only game in Clinton, a 3-0 victory in 2010. Sara Simpson and Rebecca Miller each scored a goal in the contest.
Sara Simpson and Tori Lopez each notched a goal and an assist on Saturday against Gardner-Webb to grab their fifth goals of the season. Simpson holds the edge in points on the year, with 14, but Lopez sits one behind her at 13. Sophie Cobb picked up a pair of assists in the victory to tie Simpson in that category, with four on the year. Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Fontenot also played 135 minutes of shutout soccer last week, securing her first career clean sheet with a five-save blanking of Gardner-Webb after playing a half of goal-free action against Winthrop on Tuesday.
