PC's Rally Not Enough at Campbell, 2-1
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s soccer team mounted a second-half rally on Saturday night on the road against Campbell, but time ran out as the Camels held on for a 2-1 victory.
PC (1-12-0, 1-5-0 Big South Conference) used a goal from Sara Simpson in the 73rd minute to cut Campbell’s (9-3-1, 4-2-0 Big South) 2-0 lead in half.
Simpson took a cross from Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.) outside the six-yard box and fired a shot home to put the Blue Hose on the board. The goal marked Simpson’s third of the season while Whitson notched her first assist.
Campbell scored twice in the first half to take the win. Kirsty Meyer finished a pass from Michelle Procaccini in the 14th minute before Meyer played a ball to Melissa Messier for Campbell’s 2-0 advantage in the 23rd minute.
PC tested Campbell with four shots on goal, including three in the second half as the Blue Hose looked for an equalizer. Alice Blackwell (Marietta, S.C.), Tori Lopez (Snellville, Ga.), Whitson and Simpson each tallied a shot on goal against the Camels. The Blue Hose also forced three corner kick chances in the final frame as well.
Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas.) made five saves in the opening half before Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) entered the game at halftime and stopped six shots in relief.
The Blue Hose defense and goalkeeper tandem held Big South Conference leading scorer Ashley Clark without a goal on the evening, despite six shots on goal.
PC returns to Laurens County to host Charleston Southern on Thursday at 7 p.m.
