Men's Soccer Falls to Davidson
PC (1-7-0) outshot Davidson (4-2-1) by an eight to four count in the final half and created several scoring chances. The Wildcats used a first half goal and two quick scores in succession midway through the second to take the win.
Four players led the Blue Hose with two shots each. Justin Clagette (Douglasville, Ga.), Byron Quinatoa (Santos Domingos de los Colorados, Ecuador) and Jamel Manning (Harrisburg, Pa.) each posted a shot on goal.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 37th minute. Valeriy Sviderskly sidestepped a tackle, received an Andrew Dilallo feed at the top of the box and finished the chance to put Davidson ahead heading into halftime, 1-0.
The second half saw a surge of PC offense but a pair of goals from the Wildcats. Brian McGue converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute before Alex Ficiano scored high from an Alex Givens cross less than four minutes later to make the score 3-0.
PC's closest chance for a goal put the ball inches from tying the game 15 minutes into the second half. Nico Fazio (Roswell, Ga.) streaked down the left side of the field and played a perfect cross to Quinatoa on the other side of the box. The Blue Hose senior leapt and put the ball on net while in midair, but a Davidson defender swept the shot away on the goal line to keep the ball out.
PC sophomore Brett Godwin (Suwanee, Ga.) played all 90 minutes and stopped numerous Davidson runs from his position on the back line.
PC stays at home for its next match, a Wednesday night contest against Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. The match will be video streamed on the Big South Network presented by State Farm.
