Cross Country To Compete At Winthrop Invitational

CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's and women's cross country teams will travel to the 26th Annual Adidas/Winthrop Invitational on Saturday to compete in their second race of the season. The race will also serve as the Big South Championship Preview Meet.

A total of 28 colleges and universities are expected to participate making this the largest field for the invitational since 2001. The men's 8K event will be held at 9 a.m. followed at 9:45 a.m. by the women's 5K. About 450 high school runners will also compete following the collegiate runs.

The Blue Hose last traveled to Rock Hill in 2010 when they competed at this invitational as well ast the Eagles' Fall Classic. Prior to that, PC competed annually dating back to 2004. The program's best times were both run in 2007 when Lauren Bowers covered the 5k course in 20:51 and Adam Freudenthal covered the 8k course in 27:45.

Scheduled to compete include: Anderson, Appalachian State, Belmont Abbey, Benedict, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Citadel, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Coker, College of Charleston, Davidson, Edward Waters, Elon, Emory and Henry, Erskine, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, High Point, Lehigh, Liberty, Longwood, Louisville, Mount Olive, Radford, South Carolina, South Carolina St., Spartanburg Methodist, UNC Asheville, UNC Greensboro, UNC Pembroke, USC Upstate, VMI, Western Carolina, Wingate, Winthrop, and Wofford.

PC last raced at the Gamecock Invitational on August 31. Sophomores Gabriele Lesieur (Augusta, Ga.) and Jessica Hatchell (Darlington, S.C.) led the women's team with times of 20:51 and 20:56 respectively. Freshman Reid McCandless (Fort Mill, S.C.) and junior Seth Warner (Fort Mill, S.C.) led the men's team with 5k times of 18:06 and 18:11.

Interested fans can travel to Winthrop Coliseum located at 1162 Eden Terrace in Rock Hill, S.C. After parking, the race is located towards the practice fields, soccer stadium, and track.
