Jackson's Best Leads Blue Hose At Tournament

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's golf team shot 891 (292, 295, 304) to finish 14th at the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate on Tuesday in their first tournament of the 2012-13 season.

Sophomore Samuel Jackson (Pelion, S.C.) shot a collegiate-best score of 216 (69, 72, 75) to tie for 19th and lead the Blue Hose for the third time in his young career. Junior Carter Davis (Spartanburg, S.C.) shot the team's most consistent rounds to tie for 52nd at 223 (74, 75, 74). Senior Andrew Garner (Peachtree City, Ga.) reset his collegiate best at 227 (75, 73, 79) to tie for 64th. Senior Matt Sizemore (Richmond, Va.) shot 228 (74, 75, 79) to tie for 68th, while sophomore Charlie Smiley (Savannah, Ga.) finished one stroke back with his collegiate best at 229 (76, 77, 76) tying for 71st.

All together, the Blue Hose showed an improvement of 12 strokes from last season when the team shot 903 (308, 303, 292) and finished 15th overall. Individually, Jackson improved nine strokes, Garner six, and Smiley three from their scores a year ago.

Gardner-Webb shot 850 (283, 281, 286) to win the tournament by four strokes. The Bulldogs' Daniel Kim and Matthew Yelverton tied with Old Dominion's Jamison Randall for individual medalist honors at 209.

The Blue Hose will return to play at the Rees Jones Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina at Daufuskie Island, S.C., from October 1-3.
