The Presbyterian College volleyball team fell to the UNF Ospreys in a close 3-0 match (23-25, 18-25, 23-25) this afternoon at the Radisson North Florida Invitational being held Sept. 7-8 in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Blue Hose dropped to 2-8, while the Ospreys improved to 3-4.
After an early back and forth battle the Blue Hose found themselves up 8-6 off a kill by Rachel Hall. UNF used three kills in a row, as well as a service ace, to rally to the 10-8 lead. Hall blocked the next UNF attack to cut the margin to one, 10-9. The Ospreys scored the next15 of 20 points to build a 21-13 lead, however. PC fought back, capitalizing on two service aces by Mary Trimpe and kills by Andrea Barman and Presley Mabrey, to cut the UNF lead to 21-19.
After a PC service error to make it 22-19, PC made it a one-point with a Mabrey kill and a PC miscue and trailed 22-21. UNF built a three-point lead again off a PC attack error and an ace before PC came back again to trail 24-23. That would be it as UNF's Carolyn Jenkins capped off the first game with a kill as the Ospreys took the 25-23 win.
With the second game tied 6-6, UNF went ahead for good when Paige Pridgeon and Dagnija Median blocked a Hall attack. The Ospreys built a 10-8 lead before a kill be Hall and a couple of UNF errors made it a one-point game, 11-10. UNF went on an 8-2 run to build its lead to 19-12.
PC cut the margin to four on two kills and one UNF error and trailed 19-15. The Blue Hose only scored three more points as UNF used four kills down the stretch to take the 25-18 win in game two.
Tied 9-9 in game three, the Blue Hose used four kills, two by Berryman, to take a 15-13 lead. UNF came back to tie the game at 15-15 and again at 17-17, before Hall recorded back to back kills to help PC retake the lead 20-17. It was short-lived as the Ospreys stormed back with four straight to take lead 21-20. PC tied the game at 21-12 and again at 22-22, but UNF scored the next three of four points to take the 25-23 win.
