Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime to ETSU, 3-2
PC moves to 0-2-0 on the season while ETSU improves to 3-0-0.
Lopez headed in a left-side cross from freshman Sophie Cobb (Columbia, S.C.) to tie the match at 2-2 in the 88th minute. The goal marked Lopez's second of the young campaign and Cobb received her first collegiate assist on the play.
ETSU answered 2:31 into the first overtime as Samantha Kron sent in a corner that Andie Stone finished off via header to end the contest.
The Blue Hose struck first on the night, as Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.) picked up her second goal of the season by scoring from the left side of the six-yard box to put PC ahead in the eighth minute. Sara Simpson (Columbia, Ga., pictured above) brought the ball into the box for Allen and picked up an assist, her second helper of the season.
Ramey Kerns put the home side in front with goals in the 22nd and 27th minutes, both coming from close range. The score stayed a 2-1 in favor of ETSU until Lopez's play to send the game into extra time.
PC goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made six saves in the contest, including three in the second half.
Lopez paced the Blue Hose with two shots on goal while Allen, Catie Smith (Greenville, S.C.), Christy Schofer (Powder Springs, Ga.), and Brittany Whitson (Conyers, Ga.) each notched one as well.
Freshman Christy Darracott (Augusta, Ga.) made her collegiate debut with an appearance in the second half.
PC stays on the road for its next match, a Sunday contest at Clemson. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m.
