Big South Conference Releases 2012 Men's Soccer Preseason Poll
Coastal Carolina topped the poll with all 11 first-place votes. In addition, the coaches voted Chanticleer forward Ashton Bennett the League's Preseason Attacking Player of the Year and Coastal defender Kjartan Sigurdsson the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The Blue Hose went 3-6 in Big South play last season, knocking off Radford, VMI and Campbell, and two league defeats came by margins of only one goal.
PC finished with one sixth-place vote and 25 points, eclipsing 11th-place VMI. The Blue Hose return nearly all of its scoring, including top scorers Byron Quinatoa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador), Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Jonny Mercado (Lilburn, Ga.). The team will see 15 letterwinners and seven starters suit up for the 2012 campaign.
Nico Fazio (Roswell, Ga.) and Quinatoa will captain the squad.
With PC's recent Division I certification, the Blue Hose will be eligible for the Big South and NCAA Tournaments this season.
PC travels to Wofford on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for its only preseason action before starting the regular season at home on Friday, August 24 at 7 p.m. The Blue Hose open the year with three straight home contests.
