After spending four seasons with Furman,
Roberto Pinilla joined the Presbyterian College staff in 2010 as a defensive
line coach.
While
with the Paladins, Pinilla took control of the entire defensive front in 2007.
There, he coached all-Southern Conference defensive end Wallace Artis and a
defensive line that led the league with 29 sacks. Under his direction, the
Paladins topped the conference in rush defense.
Pinilla
began his coaching career at West Georgia in 1997 as a graduate assistant. In
1998, he began coaching as a full-time assistant. During his first year as an
assistant, he handled the defensive line and served as the strength and
conditioning coach.
From
there, Pinilla coached the defensive line at East Tennessee State from
1999-2001. He then returned to West Georgia for a year before accepting a job
at The Citadel. Pinilla was with the Bulldogs for four seasons before taking
the job at Furman.
A 1997
graduate of West Georgia, Pinilla was a four-year letterwinner and started
every game over the course of his final three seasons. A team captain as a
senior, he helped the Wolves make the program's first appearance in NCAA
Division II playoffs. As a junior, he played a key role in the West Georgia
squad that was ranked in the top 10 and defeated Southern Conference member
Georgia Southern. He finished his career as the school's career leader in
starts (35) and tackles (167) by a defensive lineman.
A
native of Panama, he is married to Dominique Pierre of Brooklyn, N.Y. The
couple has two sons, Lincoln Jacob, born April 23, 2008 and Mason Christopher, born April 14, 2010.
