Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team kept every set close, but were defeated on Friday night by High Point. The Panthers defeated the Blue Hose 27-25, 25-22, and 31-29.
Freshman Trinity Williams collected a team-high nine kills in the match. PC also had a pair of players with seven kills, Erin Eulitz and Sydney De Jong, and a pair with six, Allie Wright and Lauren Talbert. Freshman Erin Cooke paced the Blue Hose with 17 assists om the night. Sophomore Sierra Jones chipped in with 12 helpers. Sophomore Taylor Farmer led PC with 16 digs.
In a battle between the top teams in the Big South, it would be the Blue Hose who took the early lead in the first set. The advantage for PC was at four, 18-14, when High Point called a timeout. The Blue Hose lead would balloon to 22-15 before the tides began to turn. The Panthers were able to even up the set at 23, and then scored four of the final six points to take the set.
High Point continued to ride the momentum from the first set, jumping out a big lead in the second set, 20-12. The Blue Hose would fight to bring the deficit to two points, 24-22. The Panthers would win the next point to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Blue Hose and Panthers would find themselves in a back and forth affair in the third set. PC went on a six-point run to tie the set at 11, and then the match would be tied at 12, 13, 14, 16, and 17. The Panthers then broke away, scoring five of the next six points to hold a 22-18 lead. The Blue Hose would tie the set at 23, and then take a 24-23 advantage. The Panthers would continue to battle and would take the final three points of the set to win 31-29 and complete the sweep.
