Presbyterian College and head volleyball coach Korrinn Burgess announced the signing of defensive specialist Samantha Stanko (Wilmington, N.C.) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Blue Hose in the fall of 2018.  She joins setter/outside hitter Erin Cooke (Davidson, N.C.), outside hitter Lauren Talbert, and outside hitter/defensive specialist Trinity Williams (Anderson, S.C.)  who signed this past fall.

High School: She was a Four-year varsity player on the volleyball and basketball teams at Coastal Christian ...  Played outside hitter ... As a junior her team earned the best record in school history with a 20-5 mark ... She made the state play-offs all four years ... Was a team captain and member of the CRC All State Team, Star News All Area Team, and Calvary Cougar Classic All-Tournament Team as a senior ... Was on the CRC All Conference Team as a sophomore, junior, and senior ... Broke the school record in career kills and kills and aces in a match ...  Earned a school award for recording over 1,000 career digs ... Stanko finished her high school career with 193 aces, 1024 digs, and 764 kills ... She was also a senior team captain on the basketball team ... She earned team MVP honors as a junior, and was on the CRC All Conference Team her sophomore and junior years ... She was a member of the Calvary Day Tip Off All Tournament Team, the Village Christian Tip Off All Tournament Team and the Star News All Area Team ... She was also WECT Player of the Week and Star News Athlete of the Week ... She holds the school records three-pointers in a game, season, and career ... Finished with 755 career points, 214 steals, and 104 three-pointers ... On the Honor Roll and was a member of the National Beta Club her last three years of HS ...

 

Club: Played for the North Carolina Elite as a freshman ... Clubbed with the Cape Fear VBC as a sophomore, junior, and senior ...

 

Personal: Samantha Claire Stanko was born in Coatesville, Pa., to Stephen and Teresa Stanko ... Sister, Brittany Stanko, played soccer at NC State (2012-2016) ... Her grandfather, George Stanko, played basketball at Villanova ... Her father was a Valencia College baseball player ... Chose PC because of the great atmosphere and ability to play the sport she loves alongside a fantastic coaching staff ... Intends to major in Biology.

 

“We are excited to add Sam (Stanko) to the class of 2018,” said coach Burgess. “She is a tremendous young student-athlete, who has had a lot of success and experience in her career already. I'm looking forward to the impact she'll have on our defense and am excited for the athleticism she brings to the DS position. She's smart and disciplined and she'll add immediate depth to that position.”
