UNCG’s Alicia Bazonski threw a one-hit shutout to lead the Spartans to the 11-1 win in five innings over the Presbyterian College softball team in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.  PC dropped game two, 8-0, in five innings.

UNCG got on the board early with three runs in the first.  Jordan Gontram brought in two off a two-RBI double, with herself scoring two batters later off a PC error.  The Spartans added six the next inning with a RBI double from Matthijs and a three-run home run by Marisa Sholtes.  Rebecca Kale offered up a RBI single, while Alexis Overdiep made it 9-0 with a RBI single.  A two-RBI single by Kayleigh Willis in the third made it 11-0.  PC put a run on the board in the top of the fourth off a RBI fielder’s choice from Presley Bissett that scored Macy Hyatt, who was on off a single to right.  That would be it as UNCG came away with the 11-1 win in five innings.

 

PC finished with one run off one hit and four errors.  Hyatt recorded a hit, with Bissett picking up a RBI, to lead the Blue Hose.  Alex Cook (0-11) went 4.0 innings and gave up 12 hits and seven earned runs, while striking out four.

 

The Spartans posted 11 runs off 12 hits, with one error.  Leading UNCG was Sholtes with two hits, three RBI and three runs scored.  Gontram and Willis each recoded two RBI as well.  Bazonski (14-3) gave up just one run off one hit, with four strikeouts.

A three-run home run by Sholtes and a solo shot by Gontram in the first inning put UNCG on the board, 4-0.  The Spartans added two more in the second off a RBI double from Matthijs and a RBI single from Sholtes.  Gabrielle Cubbage put the home team ahead 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-RBI double to left.  The Blue Hose were unable to get a rally going, falling by the final 8-0 score after five innings.

 

PC recorded a hit and had no errors.  Lindsay Harris recorded PC’s hit, a single in the fourth inning.  Sarah Ramsbottom (0-6) wen 1.2 innings and gave up six runs off seven hits.  Kaylee Allen came in relief for 2.1 innings, surrendering two hits and two runs, while striking out three.

 

UNCG recorded eight runs and nine hits.  Leading the Spartans was Sholtes with two hits and four RBI.  Cubbage recorded two hits and two RBI, with Overdiep adding two hits as well.  Hannah Stiltner (3-3) went 5.0 innings and gave up just one hit and no runs.  She struck out seven in the win.

PC drops to 3-33, while UNCG goes to 32-8.
