The Week Ahead

The Blue Hose open the 2018 lacrosse season with the Furman Paladins on Wednesday, February 14. PC and Furman have faced each other just twice all-time with Furman winning both times in 2015 and 2017.

PC is coming off of a 2-14 season in 2017. Its wins were over Butler, 12-5 and at Gardner-Webb 17-6.

Presbyterian’s leading returning scorers from the 2017 season are Lauren Schaaf and Cady Roberts who each scored 24 points in the 2017 season.

Schaaf scored 24 points via 19 goals and five assists while Roberts scored 16 goals and eight assists.

Roberts was tied with Alexandra Cole for the team lead in assists with eight. Cole has graduated making Roberts the leading returner in assists.

Schaaf is the active leader in career goals as she has 70 in 51 career games entering her senior season. Roberts is next with 40 goals through two seasons followed by Claire Frase who has scored 35 times entering her senior campaign.

Blue Hose Return Three of Top Four Scorers

Schaaf, Roberts and Ellie Stader all return for the Blue Hose in 2018. Schaaf and Roberts each finished 2017 with 24 total points while Stader finished with 14. Cole finished third in total points with 21 but has graduated.

Schaaf scored 24 points via a team high 19 goals and five assists while Roberts finished with 16 goals and eight assists. Stader had 13 goals and one assist in the 2017 campaign.

All Three Goalkeepers Return in 2018

Kayla Koch played in and started all 16 games last season, playing 749:46 minutes in goal and racking up 136 saves. Lee-Ann Salim and Sophia Cuzzupe also played in six games each playing more the 70 minutes in goal for the Blue Hose.

PC Welcomes Six Newcomers

The Blue Hose have six freshmen on this year’s roster. Kara DiClemente will wear #0, Sophie Krist #4, Sarah Marshall #7, Ana Boothe #12, Jordan Bryon #17 and Kelly Hyman #22.

Blue Hose Travel West

PC will be traveling west over Spring Break this year. On March 3 the Blue Hose will play at Arizona State followed by a matchup with San Diego State on March 5.

This will be the Blue Hose’s first meeting in program history vs both the Sun Devils and Aztecs.

Accurate Shooting

The Blue Hose took 296 total shots in the 2017 season and 210 of them were on frame.

That equals 70.9 percent of their shots being on frame and they converted on 50.0 percent of their shots on goal (105 goals/210 shots on goal).

Scouting the Paladins

The Furman Paladins are the preseason pick to win the inaugural Southern Conference women’s lacrosse season. In their first game they played the Big South preseason favorite High Point Panthers. The Panthers won that game 17-6 on Saturday, February 10.

Furman had a 46.2 percent shot percentage in the game as it converted six goals on 13 total shots. The Panthers took 43 shots in the game scoring 17 goals.

The Paladins scored three goals in each half vs High Point.

Britt Douglass led the Paladins with three goals while Abby Shields, Sophie Brennan and Isabelle Walsh all scored one goal each.

Hannah Demis tallied a team high two assists while Shields also had one.

Blue Hose vs the Paladins

Furman leads the series 2-0.

Through the first two meetings Furman has won both by scores of 14-4 and 16-3. In last season’s meeting the Blue Hose goals were scored by Roberts, Schaaf and Maura Talvacchia.
