Presbyterian College middle hitter Allie Wright (Simpsonville, S.C.) was named this week’s Big South Freshman of the Week for her performance at the Spartan-Aggie Invitational. High Point junior right-side hitter Katie Tylman (Charlotte, N.C.) and Radford senior outside hitter Maddie Palmer were named the Co-Players of the Week, while Highlanders’ defensive specialist Kaylor Nash was the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 28-Sept. 3, the conference office announced today.

Wright, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, helped the Blue Hose to their first victories of the season with a .350 hitting percentage and 41 kills (3.73 per set), in addition to eight blocks and seven service aces, in three matches. She contributed 17 kills and an .810 attack percentage in a sweep over Delaware State. Wright then tallied 14 kills and two blocks in a four-set win at North Carolina A&T.

Tylman was the Tournament MVP at the Bobcat Invitational as she led the Panthers to three wins -- including two Power 5 victories. She posted a .427 hitting percentage, 41 kills (3.42 per set), 10 blocks (0.83 per set) and 46.5 points (3.88 per set). Tylman had nine kills over Oklahoma and 12 against Georgia, then tallied 20 kills and five blocks in a five-set win over host Ohio.

Palmer was the Tournament MVP at the Cactus Classic after leading the Highlanders to a 3-0 mark -- highlighted by a five-set win over host Arizona. She recorded 49 kills (3.77 per set), 38 digs (2.92 per set), 11 blocks (0.85 per set), six service aces and 61.5 points (4.73 per set). Palmer posted double-doubles in all three matches, including a 22-kill, 16-dig effort vs. Grand Canyon, plus 22.5 points and four service aces in the victory over Arizona.

Nash recorded 51 digs in three matches for a 3.80 per set average in helping the Highlanders to the Cactus Classic title. She opened with 15 digs in a five-set win over Grand Canyon, followed by 17 digs in a sweep against Eastern Kentucky. Nash then notched a season-high 19 digs in the win over Arizona.
