Charleston, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (2-2-0) women’s soccer team fell to The Citadel Bulldogs (4-1-0) by a 3-2 score despite scoring the final two goals to make it a contest with just over two minutes to play. The game was played at Washing Light Infantry Field in Charleston, S.C. on Sunday afternoon.

How it happened:

The Blue Hose and Bulldogs played a scoreless first 20 minutes. The Citadel was able to get a few shots on goal but Alyssa Leaman saved them. Then at the 21:10 mark the Bulldogs, Tinslee Dilday, was able to sneak the ball past Leaman putting The Citadel up 1-0.

PC’s Mallory Hopkins was able to get a look at the Bulldogs goal inside the final minute but with a Citadel defender draped across her back she could not get enough on the kick to get it past the Bulldog goal keeper. The Citadel outshot PC 7-1 in the half, and there were 12 fouls in the half (seven on PC and five on The Citadel).

The first half ended with the Bulldogs up 1-0.

The Bulldogs tacked on an insurance goal at the 53:55 mark of the match taking a 2-0 lead. The Citadel would not sit on that score as they continue pressing and attacking the Blue Hose remainder of the match. That pressure would eventually lead to another Citadel goal from Georgia Robert giving the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.

PC was finally able to get in the attacking zones later in the match trying to make some noise. They were able to tack on two late goals inside the final three minutes. Freshman Peyton Patterson scored her first career goal at the 87:06 mark and then Preston Robinette tacked on her first career goal at the 87:59 mark. Emma Gray assisted on the Robinette goal off of a corner kick. Patterson was able to collect a loose ball in the attacking zone for her goal.
