Nelson Jones enters his 23rd season at Presbyterian College and fifth as the Director of Sports Medicine.

 

Jones oversees a staff of seven and is responsible for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for all student-athletes at PC. He acts as the primary athletic trainer for the volleyball, men’s basketball and men's and women's golf teams.

 

He was promoted to director in 2004. He left PC later that year to accept a position as a sales representative in Virginia. He returned to the Blue Hose in 2006, reclaiming his role as Director of Sports Medicine.

 

Jones originally joined the PC community in 1986 as the first-ever certified athletic trainer in the school’s history. Prior to his arrival, Jones served a three-year stint as an assistant athletic trainer at Furman. In addition to working with the Paladins, he has collegiate experience from East Tennessee State as well as doing internships with the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills of the National Football League and the Michigan Panthers of the former United States Football League.

 

The Bristol, Va., native earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education-athletic training from East Tennessee State (1983) and a master’s degree in health sciences from Furman (1985). He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association.

 

He resides in Clinton with his wife, the former Amy Ramage of Springfield, Ohio.
