Savannah, Ga. – The Presbyterian College softball team outlasted Savannah State on Tuesday afternoon to earn a 5-4 victory in eight innings of play. The Blue Hose move to 7-16-2 on the year.
PC was able to get on the scoreboard first, striking for a run in the top of the second inning. Kiley Kross, Courtney White, and Alyssa Batastini strung together three two-out singles to plate the run. Batastini collected her ninth RBI of the season with the base knock.
The Tigers would take a 2-1 lead on a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth. Those would be the only runs that Batastini, who got the start in the circle for the Blue Hose, would allow. The redshirt junior worked 5.1 innings, allowing only four hits while collecting a pair of strikeouts.
PC evened the score at two in the top of the seventh inning. Macy Hyatt drove in Ansley Wilbanks with a two-out double to left field to tie the game at 2-2. The Blue Hose would add three more runs in the extra frame. Kross drove in a pair Chelsea Lyons and Shircoria Bosket with a single past the shortstop to make the score 4-2. Katelyn Petty drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Taylor Ward closed out the game for PC and earned her second victory of the season. She allowed a pair of runs (one earned) on two hits in her 2.2 innings pitched. The freshman was able to work her way out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory.
The Blue Hose will open their Big South schedule this weekend with three games at USC Upstate. All three match-ups with the Spartans will be broadcasted live on ESPN+. PC will play a pair of games in Spartanburg on Saturday, the first beginning at 1:00 p.m., and will follow that with a single game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
